Every third weekend in January George Town comes alive with local, state, national and some international visitors participating in the Tamar Valley Folk Festival.
The three days featured a range of music, dance, poetry and children’s entertainment and activities. Being held on January 18-19-20 Damien Leith was this year’s headline act which allowed the event to draw a larger than normal crowd. However, event organizers say that strong numbers were seen at the majority of events held.
Tamar Valley Folk Festival isn’t held at one central location but many venues within the township including the Bass and Flinders Centre, Memorial hall, York Cove Centre and the Yacht Club. Organiser Chris Atwell said that accommodation providers have already had strong interest for reservations with interstate visitors from Victoria and New South Wales making bookings for next year’s festival in 2020. Tamar Valley Folk Festival receive generous support from Southern Cross Tasmania, George Town Council, George Town RSL, Impression Promotional Products, The Pier Hotel, Barratts Music, Bushby Property Group and Grays Hotel.
