Launceston’s annual free concert series Music in the Park will return to City Park in January.

Celebrating its 16th anniversary, Music in the Park is a free concert series held in Launceston’s majestic City Park on Sundays throughout summer, featuring live music from talented local performers.

This summer’s Music in the Park features a diverse line-up of local performers, with the first concert on Sunday January 8 featuring The Ferguson Brothers.

Launceston Mayor Danny Gibson said Music in the Park was a fun, free and family-friendly event which had a loyal support base.

“In its current form, Music in the Park will be marking its 16th anniversary when it returns next year,” Mayor Gibson said.

“Music in the Park is a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon in the splendid surrounds of Launceston’s majestic City Park.”

“There’s a varied program of performers lined up for Music in the Park concerts throughout January and February, and I encourage Launceston families to make the most of what’s on offer.”

“Returning again this year is the Tasmania Police Pipe Band, which has been performing in one form or another for more than 50 years, and includes serving police officers, teachers, students, corporate executives and members of the Tasmanian community.”

“We also have The Ferguson Brothers, Apache, the Tassie Tenor, the St Patricks College Big Band, the Launceston City Band, the St Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band, and the West Tamar Municipal Band.”

“It’s a bumper line-up and we’re looking forward to the concert series kicking off on the other side of Christmas.”
